A big thank you goes out to BBGeeks for sharing which Blackberry apps will make turning your Blackberry into a virtual workstation possible. I’m especially excited about being able to use Documents To Go on my Blackberry. Love the idea of having my spreadsheets available anytime anywhere I may need them.
Unfortunately I’m going to have to wait until Blackberry Device Software 4.5 is available for mine. Needless to say, as I’m sure many others did and will, I immediately emailed my carrier’s service support to see if I can find out when it will be available. As soon as it is I will definitely be purchasing Documents To Go by DataViz. Jason Coup of DataViz’s Office Mobility Blog has a post where you can keep up with which carriers have Blackberry Device Software 4.5 available.
Imagine being a service type business and being out on a service call with a client. Once the job is completed you’ll be able to create the client’s invoice and immediately email it. Or, if you prefer and your Blackberry is bluetooth enabled, pair your Blackberry and your virtual workstation up with the Linksys USBBT100 Bluetooth USB Adapter and print your documents wherever a printer and a USB connection are available.
If you’re in direct sales or another type of retail business you have the ability to keep a spreadsheet listing inventory you currently have in stock with you at all times. Create a database of customers along with an invoice or sales receipt template and you’ll be able to create an invoice or sales receipt all while maintaining your inventory list.
Just the thought of not having to carry a laptop all the time is a relief to me. Here’s hoping my carrier provides BDS 4.5 very soon.
